Blogmas day 8: Liverpool snowflake trail

Liverpool at Christmastime is so amazing, the buildings at lit up and the markets are pretty good too. The main Christmas tree in the centre even has a bar under it! This year, there is a snowflake trail going on all around the city and I decided to take part in it seeing as I am only in Liverpool for a few years for University. I thought you guys might be interested to see some very artistic snowflakes and hear about this awesome idea.

You can collect a booklet from a lot of shops in Liverpool. I got mine from Forever 21. It tells you all about the Snowflake trail and gives you a map so it is a bit easier and also fun to locate them. The map includes details of who designed each snowflake (of which there are 12) and this is also written on the actual Snowflake itself when you find it. I think it’s great that so many artists are getting their name out there.

Included in the booklet is a lovely little story of how the snowflakes came to be there. It involved elves, Jack Frost and magic! The story took me back to my childhood because it really reminded me of Daisy Meadows fairy book collection. Let me know in the comments if you ever read this book series. They were my favourite. Another reason that the story is so good is because it mentions specific places in Liverpool, like buildings and street names. I think this would add to the magic if you were a child.

Here are a few of my favourite snowflakes 

This snowflake was designed by Amy Ryan Brew and is titled ‘A world within a snowflake’. The writing on the snowflake stand says: ‘Inside a snowflake, like the one on your sleeve, there happened a story, you must see to believe..’ Brew was inspired by The Grinch and the world of a snow globe.

Designed by Lois Tierney this snowflake is simply called ‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer’. The snowflake reads: ‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer might have got picked on for his nose, but that didn’t stop him doing a great job of helping Santa deliver presents all over the world! The artist believes we could all learn from Rudolph – to follow our dreams and not take other people’s opinions to heart, but also to be kind and considerate to others because we’re all equal.’ I absolutely love the message of this Snowflake.

‘Tropical Christmas’ was designed by Ria Fell and incorporates some exotic animals within the design such as an Australian kangaroo and a Brazilian tapir. The idea of this Snowflake is that all the animals included celebrate Christmas (it’s not only penguins and polar bears you know?)

Abigail Twigg designed this snowflake which is called ‘Constellations’. the stand reads ‘Gazing at a snowflake, just like gazing into the night sky, fills us all with a sense of wonderment. This snowflake design reflects both the magic of Christmas and the magic of the universe combined…’ I think this is a lovely idea.

 

I think my favourite snowflake (although it’s hard to choose) has got to be ‘Poles apart’ by Laura Kate Chapman. Chapman was inspired by animals from opposite ends of the earth. The design centres around an emperor penguin and an arctic fox. I think it looks so beautifully wintery.

Of course, this is only a small selection of the 12 snowflakes dotted around Liverpool. They are all wonderful and if you’re in the area I suggest taking a little look at the snowflake trail yourself.
