L’oreal Pure Clay detox mask review

I’ve never been a big face mask user, owing to the fact I had an allergic reaction to a cheap one when I was younger. Since then, I’ve been a little apprehensive to try. But then I saw the L’oreal pure clay range and became curious at the clay element. These masks seem much different to the one that gave me a reaction years ago so I bit the bullet and decided to buy the detox one.

Overview:
There are three versions of the clay mask, the Purify mask which ‘deeply purifies and mattifies’, the Glow mask which ‘brightens and exfoliates’ and the Detox mask which I opted for which ‘cleanses and clarifies’.  These L’oreal clay masks retail for £7.99, however currently they are on offer for £6 at Superdrug and have been for a while since that is where I got mine for, at that price. You can get yours here.

This detox mask contains three pure clays: Koalin, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul. Immediately this reminds me of the Chantecaille black detox mask which also boasts of the Koalin ingredient, however at £70 for the Chantecaille mask, the L’oreal one is much more affordable. The L’oreal detox mask contains charcoal, which is somewhat of a super ingredient as it works to pull out the dirt from your pores, making them much clearer.

The jar is really great quality, with thick glass which is definitely one for the shelf. The box says the jar includes 10 applications, however I’m pretty sure you can get more than 10 out of it as I still have loads left!

How to use:
After cleaning your skin thoroughly, apply a layer of the mask all over your face being careful to avoid your eyes and lips. Once it is applied, leave to dry on the face for about 10 minutes. The box says to remove with a wet tower or warm water however I prefer to jump in the shower to avoid all the mess! You should do this 2-3 times a week.

What do I think?:
I was skeptical at first as, like I mentioned earlier, I am not a huge face mask user so I didn’t know if something like this would work for my skin. On opening the jar, the clay mask was black and when applied to my face it felt really cool and soothing which I liked. I expected it to tingle a little as I’d seen a few reviews saying it would, but it didn’t for me. I left it on for the 10 minutes and when I looked in the mirror I noticed that the mask had dried and turned from black to grey. The substance had settled into my pores, which I was very happy and quite surprised about as I felt it was actually doing something to my pores and getting the excess oil and dirt out of there. My face felt tight and firm which was also nice.I got into the shower to rinse the mask which was super easy to do and it came right off.
Afterwards my face felt super fresh and clear and I have to admit I did feel like the toxins had been removed and the detox element had worked. I think the mask had helped to move some of my blackheads. But be warned, it is not a miracle worker – it won’t remove all blackheads in one use! However, on continuing to use the mask I believe my skin is clearing up a bit and feels much clearer, soft and brighter.
I definitely believe that this mask is worth the £7.99 and if you can get it on offer then even better! I will be continuing to use this and I may try the glow mask from the range next.

These pictures show when I first applied the mask and after 10 minutes:

I hope you found this review helpful and if you have any questions or want to share your experience of this mask with me, please feel free to leave them in the comments box below!
