So until next Sunday I don’t have all my makeup and beauty products with me (yes I am crying) since I’ve moved a lot of stuff back up to Uni for my final year. So I thought since I don’t have access to a lot of the things I’d like to talk about on my blog, I’d do a post of makeup hacks. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now so I guess this separation from my products has made me get my ass in gear! I hope you enjoy this post and maybe even find it useful. Of course, these are all the hacks I personally use which I find make my makeup look the best it can. If you do things differently, that’s okay too. Makeup is all about having fun.
NEVER skip the skin prep
There’s just no use in cutting corners when it comes to preparing your skin before applying makeup. I Always cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize before going anywhere near any makeup products otherwise the makeup will not sit nicely on the skin. If you want that flawless base, make sure to always follow this step.
Pick a foundation that suits your skin type
This is a big deal! If you have dry skin, it’s best to not pick a completely matte foundation as it will stick to and extenuate dry patches. Go for something more dewy. If your skin is particularly greasy then opt for something more matte and avoid dewy foundations.
Use concealer as an eye shadow base
It’s important to prep your eye lids before applying any eye shadow, however instead of paying for an eye primer, I always use concealer on the lids and set it with a cream coloured shadow. It works just as good as any primer and it might save you some money since you are utilizing products you already have.
Use bronzer as an eye shadow
I love to apply a little of my bronzer in the crease of my eye for a super easy every day look which ties in nicely with the rest of my face. It’s a very handy hack to use when you’re feeling lazy and can’t be bothered digging into any eye palettes.
Invest in an eyelash curler and keep the curl all day
This is something I didn’t bother doing for the longest time, and I very much regret it now! Pick up an eyelash curler (I got an affordable one in Superdrug) and use it BEFORE applying mascara. This makes your lashes look much longer healthier. If you want your lashes to remain curled for as long as possible, choose a waterproof mascara as they hold a curl better.
You don’t have to set your face all the time
From all the beauty guru’s and YouTube tutorials it’s easy to think that setting your face and baking is a must. Actually though, it really isn’t! With having dry skin, I very rarely set my face. Sometimes I will set the concealer under my eyes. If I use powder all over, my face looks dull and flat. If you have dry skin too, try skipping this step!
You can be bold with your lipstick
I often like to use a bold lipstick in the day time, even though a lot of people think this is too much for an every day look. I also find that wearing something bold on the lip can distract from any skin imperfections as the eye is drawn directly to the lips, rather than that break out.
I hope someone out there found these tips useful.
