NYX ‘In Your Element’ Wind Eye-shadow Palette | review & swatches

Hi everyone!

If you read my Christmas present post, then you’ll already know that I was given the NYX In Your Element Wind eye-shadow palette from my sister. I was so happy with this because I love new palettes to play around with, and from my past experience NYX make some pretty good eye shadows. So I have been wearing this quite a lot since Christmas in order to get a solid opinion on the palette! So now I think I can share my views on this palette if anyone was thinking of purchasing it.

NYX Wind 1

Overview & Claims
The NYX ‘In Your Element’ palette collection has six options: Air, Earth, Metal, Water, Fire and Wind. My sister chose me the Wind palette, which I was so happy with! I like the colour selection in all the palettes, but I already have a lot of warm tone shadows and this palette has a selection of colours which I didn’t already have in my eye-shadow collection. Each palette costs £25 and contains 12 shadows. I do think this is a little pricey for NYX, as they aren’t a high-end brand.
The packaging is stunning. The palette comes inside a purple box and the palette itself also has the same purple swirl pattern on. The plastic casing is very sturdy and it has a large mirror inside which is always a bonus.
The box says that these shadows are ‘rich’ ‘silky’ and ‘velvety’ which range from ‘bright sky blue’ to ‘deep and stormy gray’.

Review
I have a mixed view on these shadows. The quality and pigmentation is brilliant, particularly the mattes and the more ‘sheen’ type shades. They blend out fairly easy (although not as well as other brands shadows, for example Zoeva). There is a little fall out when using them, so I would recommend doing your eye makeup before your face makeup. However, the fall out is not so bad, so I wouldn’t let that put you off purchasing the palette. My favourite shade is the bright blue as it is insanely pigmented and beautiful!
Shades labelled 8, 11 and 12 and very similar despite looking different in the pan, which you may be-able to tell from the swatches. I would have liked a brighter purple shade in the place of one of these.
The palest shimmer shades 4 and 7 are a little bit harder to make show up. If you add a few layers you do get a nice shimmer on the eye! But for £25 I would have expected these to be a little better.
However, I am very glad I have this palette because the quality is mostly very impressive and they last all day on the eyelids without fading much at all. I also love the blue shades in here, and I believe the pale blue shade is really unique and surprisingly pigmented for such a pale colour.

All in all I would recommend this palette if you like the look of the colour selection and don’t mind working a little harder with the paler shimmer shades.

I hope you have found this review helpful! Let me know in the comments below what you think, and if you have tried one of the palettes from this ‘In your Element’ range. Or if you would be interested to try this palette!

Great review! That’s a really pretty palette. I’ve thought about trying one of these, but the price is a bit steep.

Thank-you! & I agree about the price, I don’t think I would have bought one for myself as it’s quite pricey.

I don’t think I own a cool toned eye shadow palette, it’s definitely fun to step out of comfort zone when it comes to makeup. I hope you’ll do a tutorial with this one :). xx

This is a great post! I’ve had my eye on this palette range, they all look so pretty, but I’m glad you’ve made this honest review, as for the price the quality should be so much better for the price!

That sucks to find out you have to layer up the lightest shades a bit, but you cant really complain for the price I guess. Great review, thanks girl !

The matte shades are really good so I do think the palette is a good one! At least the shimmers do work with building them up I guess! Thanks for stopping by x

That’s almost disappointing though, NYX is such a good beauty brand, their products should be better han having to build them up. Even the drugstore brands have stepped it up, ya know ?

Yes you’re not wrong! Particularly because this palette is £25. You can get a Morphe palette with amazing shimmer shades in there for the same price x

That blue shade is gorgeous but it seems pretty expensive for what it is, I would have loved it to have more variety of colours

Yeah, I definitely agree! I’d have liked to see a brighter purple as well x
