Europe’s Hidden Gem – Wroclaw!

If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I recently visited Wroclaw for a few nights. If you haven’t heard of Wroclaw before, then it is in the Lower Silesia region of Poland. It took a while for me to get my head around the fact that it is actually pronounced ‘vrosh-slav’, not ‘wroclaw’.

I personally love Poland. I have been to both Poznan and Krakow, so when searching for flights in June brought up a few cheap flights to Wroclaw, my and my partner Michael knew we couldn’t say no.

You may have recently read my post on Budapest, Hungary since I also visited there lately. If you have, then in my opinion, Wroclaw is very different to Budapest. In Wroclaw, there is plenty to do, but most of the trip we spent relaxing in beautiful bars and restaurants. The scenery in Wroclaw is truly one of kind, and something I wish everyone could experience first hand to understand its beauty.

The main square in gorgeous. Coloured buildings line the streets, looking like something straight out of a fairyland. The main building is very medieval in its architecture, and it is different to the other places in Poland I have seen, yet does carry a resemblance of those places too.

A main attraction of Wroclaw is the dwarfs. There are trails you can do to help you locate the little dwarfs around the city. On my visit, I didn’t find the time to follow a trail, but I saw a lot of the little figurines whilst exploring the city and they were definitely attracting a lot of attention. The dwarfs certainly add to the charm and fairytale feeling of the place.

One of the most remarkably beautiful places I visited was the Japanese Gardens. They are truly picturesque and magical. I spent a good amount of time walking around the lake, taking pictures and just enjoying the views. This was definitely one of those ‘I’m never leaving!’ places.

Can I go on holiday without going to the zoo? The answer is no. In the UK I never go to the zoo, but on holidays I always visit. Wroclaw zoo is massive, the enclosures are some of the biggest I’ve seen and the staff were on hand seeing to the animals in every area of the zoo. The ‘afrykarium’ was one of the best parts – it had all the African animals in there along with a tonne of beautiful fish.

The food in Wroclaw was absolutely incredible and came at an amazing price. One night myself and Michael went for a meal where we both had a drink, a starter and a main and we were only charged £12!? Of course we left a generous tip!
If you ever visit Poland, you need to try the traditional Polish dish, Zurek Soup. It is described as a sour rye soup, which honestly doesn’t sound that nice… but it is one of the nicest dishes ever. It has sausage, egg and potato in it, and it is often served in a bowl made of bread.

I don’t normally write posts in this style, but I had to share my experience, and some pictures of Wroclaw because I honestly think it is the most beautiful place I’ve been too. I would seriously urge anyone to go if you get the chance!
