e.l.f Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer | Review

Hi everyone,

How are you all doing? I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend & enjoyed the amazing sun we had (if you’re in the UK). I know I did. Unfortunately I had to work a few days over the extended weekend but I still managed to fit in some time in the sun which was great.

Today I want to review the e.l.f Hydrating Face Primer which I picked up from Superdrug a couple weeks ago. My makeup had been looking so dry & just not sitting nicely on my skin, so I thought a hydrating primer could help me out a little. I also switched up my foundation brush back to my old one.. no regrets!

So, if you want to hear my thoughts on this one, keep reading.

Overview
For £7.50 you get 14ml of product – the packaging is a little deceiving as it does look like you get more product than this. So that’s something to bare in mind. For comparison, the NYX Honey Dew Me Up (a firm fave of mine) will set you back £15 for 22ml. So although the e.l.f primer seems to be way more affordable than the NYX one – it’s actually not.

e.l.f claim that this primer will ‘transform your face into a flawless, smooth canvas, ideal for long-lasting makeup application.’ The primer is infused with grape, vitamin A, C & E ‘to boost complexion and hydrate your skin.’

Review
I was surprised at the texture of this primer. It has a silicone feel to it & had I of felt this without knowing which primer it was, I would’ve guessed it to be a pore filling primer rather than a hydrating one.
Although I was surprised, I wasn’t disappointed. I personally don’t mind a silicone primer. I used to love the L’oreal Infallible one & it actually feels rather similar on application.

As I mentioned, I first tried this out when my skin was particularly dry & giving me some hassle. So I was definitely putting it to the test.
I noticed that my foundation applied much smoother than before and it didn’t immediately cling to dry patches as it had been doing in the days before. Great first impression! Although don’t get it into your brows as it makes applying any product in there a nightmare..
The satisfaction didn’t end there – I found that my skin remained looking much more hydrated throughout the day when I wore this primer. My face looked smoother as promised.
I wouldn’t say this primer increased the longevity of my makeup, at least not enough for me to notice. But I didn’t mind that as I don’t necessarily think that is the main focus of this particular primer (although they do say it creates a base ideal for long-lasting makeup).

Overall, I am a fan of this primer & it is definitely something I will be continuing to use when my skin is feeling dry. If you find your foundation is looking dry & flaked, I would definitely recommend this one for you! The only downside is that I’ll probably be going through this really quickly. It also smells like playdough which might put some people off.

Have you tried this primer? What other products do you recommend from e.l.f? Let me know in the comments below!

Jazmin xx

It sounds pretty good for keeping your skin hydrated! My go to primer is the High-Adherence Silicone Primer from The Ordinary. I have quite dry skin too and it’s the only primer I’ve used that I actually found effective and suitable to my skin type!

I hate products that are deceiving around how much you actually get! Saying that, it sounds really great, I love anything hydrating and just from your image I think I’d like the texture of it. I keep meaning to try Elf so I’ll keep an eye out for this!

Yeah it sucks but I’m just glad it didn’t cost too much so I don’t feel too disappointed! This is a great primer if you’re into hydration products – definitely give it a go if you spot it in store! X

This sounds really great and it’s still super affordable so I don’t mind that you don’t get a huge amount. I quite like the texture of silicone primers on dry skin too! I don’t wear primer that regularly but I do have really dry skin and my foundation doesn’t always sit well over it so I might try this one! x

I haven’t tried this primer before but I have tried other ones from Elf and have always been impressed. This does sound like it did the job for you which is great! I hate it when foundation clings to the dry patches, I’ll have to check this out x

That packing is so deceiving, like seriously? On the another note I do like the claims of this product, having a good hydrating primer is a must in makeup collection, because you always need to have one on hand. I have two of them right now, don’t need new one, but will keep this one in mind for future. Lovely review. xx
