Fenty Beauty Instant Retouch Setting Powder | Review

Hey everyone,

I hope you are well.  I apologise for being absent for almost a week here on my blog. I am having such a busy month! Yesterday I had a little break in the form of a day trip to Bridlington which was super fun.

Today I want to share with you a review of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder in the shade Butter. I have been using it for a few weeks now & a few people mentioned that they’d be interested in a full review of this when I shared that I recently added it to my collection!

(See my review of the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth bronzer HERE.)

Overview
The Fenty Beauty Setting Powder will set you back £24, and for that price you get 28g of product. I find the price point really good for a premium brand such as Fenty.

The setting powder comes in 8 shades; I have the second lightest, ‘Butter’. The shade range is pretty good for a loose powder range & you should be able to find something to match your skin.

The packaging is really classic and lovely, as with everything from Fenty Beauty. It is also really practical for a setting powder – in the box you receive a separate plastic ‘stopper’ lid to ensure setting powder doesn’t get everywhere… we’ve all been there right?!

Fenty Beauty say this is a ‘A superfine, weightless loose setting powder curated in 8 sheer shades to perfect and extend makeup wear for that filtered, photo-ready finish on lock.’ They boast that the powder will not cause flash back & will instead melt into the skin, letting you brighten without a trace. A mattifying powder that won’t cake or settle.

Review
I like to apply this setting powder with a Real Techniques contour brush – I prefer this as it is still fluffy but not too big, so I am able to be more precise. I have been applying the product all over my face to set my foundation & concealer into place.

I have found that this setting powder really smooths out my skin, allowing it to look more flawless & smooth than before. The powder is so finely milled which is really nice. Side Note – it smells incredible like birthday cake!
I don’t find that the setting powder causes my makeup to look cakey at all, which is great as I have a drier skin type. It simply tends to melt into the skin as Fenty claim! However, I am particularly dry under my eyes at the moment and this powder can emphasise that dryness and texture in that area a little, however I find all setting powders to do this. Other powders I have tried have been far too dry looking all over my face, but with this one I don’t get that issue other than slighlty in that one area, so I can’t complain & I am really impressed with the outcome.

This setting powder does give me a lovely soft matte airbrushed finish, however if you have quite oily skin I don’t think this would be enough for you. With certain foundations, topped with this powder, I do get my natural oils coming through after a while. For me, this is a positive, but for others it may not be. So that is something to bare in mind.

Overall I really love this setting powder. It is so finely milled and definitely helps my skin to look flawless. I think it will work well for most skin types, excluding someone with very oily skin who wants to stay matte all day long! I even think this is a good option for someone with dry who still wants to use a loose setting powder, as this one looks much nicer than others I have tried on my drier skin.

I really want to try this powder. Even though my skin is super oily, I still like light powders. I don’t like heavy powder that looks super cakey on skin. Lovely review. xx

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I haven’t seen a review on this setting powder yet and I was curious about how people would like it. Overall it sounds like a great powder! I’m not quite sure yet if it would suit my skin. I have combination skin and I don’t really want my oily spots to come through quickly.

It’s such a lovely powder – but yes if you don’t want natural oils to come through then I’d say maybe it’s a pass x
