Hey there, I know I know, it’s October and I’m already dropping the C word. But please forgive me as I actually got to experience an early Christmas this week as I was kindly invited to an exciting evening at The Cosy Club! I got to try dishes from their wonderful Christmas menu and I really had the best time, so I wanted to write up a blog post all about this to share my experience with you, along with some snaps I took on the night!
The evening started at 7pm at The Cosy Club in Derby city centre. On arrival the lovely man behind the bar asked us what drinks we would like. I chose a gin & lemonade – I went with Burleigh’s gin which I hadn’t tried before; it turned out to be yummy!
After taking a seat for a short while in the bar area with my boyfriend Michael, who came along for the night, we were given a glass of mulled wine. It was SO good & I didn’t expect to enjoy it considering I’m not a wine drinker, but honestly it had a bit of a cake flavour which I couldn’t get enough of. We were then shown to the dining area with the other people invited to the evening, I hadn’t expected the place to be so big. The main dining space really looked like a ballroom. The high ceiling and chandeliers made me feel like I was in a different country.
In total there must have been around 15 of us & we went into a private room called the Wallace room. The amazing staff at The Cosy Club had prepared the room and table beautifully with a decorative setting (and plenty wine!) & it truly felt like Christmas day – which was incredible… who doesn’t love Christmas!!
After more drinks, cracker pulling & a good chat with the others attending, the starter platters came out. We got to try a little bit of everything on offer on the Christmas menu starter list. Every single thing was absolutely delicious & I would struggle to choose just one. However, the pulled beef brisket was insanely good, and had melted blue cheese within in. I am such a sucker for cheese. Michael was obsessed with the mini sausages.
Everyone I spoke to there was very impressed with the starters & couldn’t wait to try the mains! I ordered the Confit Duck Leg & Michael chose the Norfolk Turkey & Smoked Bacon Pie. I did find it a tough decision because everything just sounded so good. After yet more drinks our mains arrived, looking yummy. My duck was cooked to perfection – I could not fault it at all. The dauphinoise potatoes were right up my street. I loved the roasted plum as it went so well with the duck. Michael’s pie was also perfect – the turkey & bacon pie had a creamy filling which he kindly let me try. I love anything creamy.. On his plate there was also some pigs in blankets; you can’t get any more Christmassy than that!
Looking around at everyone else’s dishes I don’t think you could go wrong with choosing from the menu. Clean plates all round.
For desert I opted for the Chocolate & Cinder Toffee Cheesecake, and Michael went for the English Cheese Selection. We did end up sharing both deserts because I wanted to try both. Can you blame me? The cheese selection included my favourite – blue cheese. I happily ate ALL of that on an oatcake as luckily for me Michael isn’t a fan of blue cheese.
Once I had tasted the cheeses, I dug into some of the cheesecake. If you like chocolate and sweet flavours then you will LOVE this cheesecake. It was super creamy & rich. The pieces of cinder toffee broke up that chocolate flavour adding more to the palette. I could have eaten a whole cake in all honestly.
By the end of the evening I was full of incredible food & drinks, and happy to have gotten to know some lovely people around the table. I have to praise the staff at The Cosy Club Derby for being so welcoming & attentive. Nothing was too much hassle & I am sure everyone invited would share that sentiment.
I will 100% be visiting The Cosy Club again at Christmastime to try more from the menu. I would definitely recommend trying it out for yourself too at your local venue when the Christmas menu launches on November 21st (they are all around the UK which means no one has to miss out).
I can’t thank The Cosy Club enough for such a wonderful evening. Please do check out their website HERE to find out more info & to find your closest one!
I hope you have enjoyed reading this post & that I have made your decision for a Christmas meal easier.
