Nars Climax Extreme Mascara | Review

Hey everyone, how are you all doing? I can’t believe we are soo close to Christmas. December has absolutely flew by. Everything feels very different this year, but I am still looking forward to Christmas! Today I want to share my review on the Nars Climax Extreme Mascara. I asked which mascara you’d like to see a full review on on my instagram stories and this one won the poll. I’ve been testing this out for around a month now and I’m ready to share my overall thoughts.

OVERVIEW
At £22 this Nars Climax Extreme mascara is definitely a high end option, but it is still averagely affordable for premium makeup. It’s a lot of money to spend on a mascara so it has to perform well to be worth the price tag. It’s worth saying I didn’t actually purchase this one myself, I got it for free at a work beauty conference. If you want to see what other goodies I got check out my New To My Collection | Makeup First Impressions post.

Nars have two versions of this mascara. The Climax, and the Climax Extreme which I have. Both are the same price. As the name suggests, the ‘extreme’ is a more extreme version boasting more volume.

Nars say this mascara will give you extreme volume, is extremely black & will you give extreme performance. They say that the XXL ribbed bristle brush instantly creates explosive volume in just one coat with latex like black pigment from root to tip!

Nars claim this mascara is long wearing, clump resistant, smudge resistant and flake resistant.

I love the packaging for this one – a chunky black ribbed tube. The wand is one of my favourite kinds too – it’s big but not TOO fat, with bristles not plastic (which I prefer).

REVIEW
Firstly, I like that the Nars Climax Extreme mascara wand allows me to get super close to the root of the lash without scratching my eye or making them feel sore. It allows me to curl and coat the lash right from the root leading to longer looking lashes.

This gives me a nice amount of volume. It’s not quite as much as I expected given the name and the claims, however Nars are correct when they say you can achieve good volume in just one coat! It’s also super black.

I wish this separated the lashes better – I have to comb through them a number of times to try to separate them nicely, which leads to clumpy lashes despite the clump resistant claims Nars make. It takes me some time to get my lashes to look how I want them to look when I use this mascara, so it’s not one I would opt for if I am in a rush.

If you read my blog a lot, you might know that I tend to get mascara smudging on my brow bone quite easily due to the shape of my eye. I have definitely found some amazing mascara’s which don’t transfer and I was hoping this would be a winner since Nars do say this is smudge resistant, but unfortunately this one does transfer and smudge onto that brow bone area pretty quickly! If you don’t tend to have this problem due to different eye shapes, you should be fine but it is something to bare in mind! It doesn’t flake at all which is great.

Unfortunately this isn’t a mascara I would recommend or repurchase. You can achieve some nice looking lashes with it, but it is harder work than other options, and the smudging is a deal breaker for me.

Have you tried this one?

Thanks for reading,

Jazmin xx

I thought this sounded quite good but it’s a shame about the smudging! I love the shape and size of the wand, and your lashes look really good! But I think it sounds like there’s better available for the price x

It’s such a shame it smudges so badly right!? The wand is perfect x
